Other Outreach
Club members regularly take part in community service activities. There are also occasional one-time opportunities throughout the year that need less time commitment.
SeedShare Library
Club members support homeowner gardens by providing seeds to SeedShare Libraries located in the Pleasanton Library and Livermore Library. The seeds are distributed free of charge to our Club members and to the community.
LAVGC members save seeds from their garden throughout the year. Our SeedShare group meets regularly to package up the seeds. Our seed inventory changes constantly throughout the year depending on which seeds are available in member gardens at particular times of the year!
First Street Pots
A couple of times per year, Club members work in conjunction with Alden Lane Nursery and the Livermore Downtown Association to replant and tidy up the pots that are along the main retail section on First Street in Livermore.
Make A Difference Day
Make a Difference Day is a National Day of Volunteerism. LAVGC is proud to have participated in the City of Pleasanton’s celebration for many years, providing information about the garden Club and its volunteer opportunities to the community.
Alameda County Fair
As a Club mini fundraiser, LAVGC assists the Alameda County Fair each year. Members volunteer their time in any area of the Fair where help is needed, for example, in the horticultural area, the professional gardens, the information booth, or even at the horse races.
Penny Pines Reforestation
The Penny Pines program is a joint partnership of the National Garden Club (NGC) and the USDA Forest Service. This program sustains our national and urban forests through a reforestation/forest education program. At meetings members donate spare change toward Penny Pines and also honor individuals by donating money in their name for re-planting trees in our forests.
Blue Star Memorial
As needed, LAVGC participates in the state and national Blue Star Memorial program, supporting the memorial plaques and surrounding garden at the Veteran's Hospital in Livermore. In 2023 LAVGC joined the state project of restoring the plaques and surrounding garden at the Veteran's hospital.
