Garden Outreach
Garden outreach is essential to the mission of the Livermore-Amador Valley Garden Club (LAVGC). By actively supporting local gardens in Pleasanton and Livermore, we not only enhance the beauty of our neighborhoods but also foster a sense of community spirit. Our members dedicate their time and effort to care for several gardens, adapting workdays based on seasonal needs and the specific requirements of each garden. Members work at food gardens, like Clare's Fare and Eden Garden to grow fresh produce for community members in need. Gardens like the Hansen Park Rose Garden and the Sensory Garden add beauty to the community and help to educate community members about gardening. Together, we can cultivate not just gardens, but also friendships and a shared commitment to our vibrant community!
Clares Fare Garden
At Clare's Garden, volunteers grow organic fruits and vegetables for organizations that provide food to residents who need food assistance. There are two main organizations that receive food from Clare's Garden. Culinary Angels makes organic nutrient-rich meals for cancer patients. La Familia provides high-quality mental health, community support, and advocacy services in the San Francisco Bay Area. Clare's Garden leaders determine what crops to grow by consulting with the leaders of these groups to determine what produce they need.
Eden Garden
At Eden Garden, on the CrossWinds Church property in Livermore, volunteers grow organic fruits and vegetables for local food banks and other local residents who need food assistance. Donation sites include Tri-Valley Haven, South Hayward Parish, a group home in Dublin, and residents of Goodness Village.
Volunteers working at the garden have the opportunity learn to learn from others about growing their own food.
Hansen Park Rose Garden
Hansen Park Rose Garden is a small island park in Livermore, located where First Street meets Holmes Street. The garden was planted in 1963 by the East Bay Rose Society, Livermore Lions Club, and the City of Livermore. In 2012, the Livermore Amador Valley Garden Club (LAVGC) partnered with the City of Livermore to help maintain and improve the rose garden. LAVGC regularly partners with the Landscape and Maintenance Division of the City of Livermore Public Works Department while maintaining this garden
Sensory Garden
The Sensory Garden, next to the Senior Center in Pleasanton's Centennial Park, is designed and maintained by Livermore Amador Valley Garden Club members.
The garden's name describes what it is meant to do-stimulate the senses. Each plant in the garden has been selected for its particular characteristics; for example, for color, texture, fragrance, attraction for pollinators and birds.
