4th Monday Lunch Bunch
On the fourth Monday of the month members gather for lunch and to do a fun activity, listen to a topic, or go on a tour. The group's activities change from month to month. The location changes each month and details are in the newsletter. Members might make a garden-related craft, make something in the kitchen, or go out on a tour. The group's activities are limited only by the imagination of the participants. Sometimes the leaders supply materials for an activity and ask for a small donation to cover the supplies; sometimes members bring their own materials. Most of the group meetings include a potluck lunch. Each attendee brings a dish to share.
Several members serve as the chairs for this group, planning the year’s activities together. Each month one of the members serves as host for the event and leads the month’s activity.
How to Participate in this Group
Each month’s newsletter and the Calendar contain information about the upcoming month’s activity, including if there is a limitation on the number of participants. If you want to attend a particular month’s activity you must sign up, either at the Club meeting or by RSVPing to the contact person noted for the month’s activity. We recommend that you join this group’s email distribution list so that you get the latest details about the month’s activity.

4MLB History
The 4th Monday Lunch Bunch (4MLB) has been a fun and informative group for at least 25 years. The 4MLB group was formed to accommodate members who preferred a daytime meeting due to conflicting calendar events and health limitations that limited their ability to get to a night meeting. Additionally, because the general meeting was often in Pleasanton some members felt that the Club should have a meeting place in the Livermore area. Bernice and David Oakley stepped up to the request and organized the group to meet at a restaurant in Livermore at 11:30AM on the 4th Monday of each month. 4MLB met at a Livermore restaurant for many years. Initially it was primarily a social occasion. Eventually speakers were brought in to present various garden topics. The 4MLB budget was limited so the speakers were usually Club members. Usually, one member served as the group leader who planned the activity for each month.
In 2019 the format of the 4MLB meetings changed. Instead of meeting at restaurants, 4MLB began meeting at fellow members’ homes and gardens. The group typically enjoyed a potluck lunch followed by a garden related activity or craft or a speaker (usually a LAVGC member). A couple of times a year the group started taking incredibly fun and educational field trips. Planning for 4MLB has changed; a committee works together to plan projects, locations, and field trips. During the Covid pandemic 4MLB didn’t meet for the first 18 months. Members missed getting together so 4MLB participants agreed to resume meeting outside only, wearing masks and making sure all the Covid guidelines were followed. Post Covid 4MLB continues to be a fun, social and educational program that Club members enjoy.
