Mediterranean/Native Plant Group

We live in one of the unique Mediterranean climates and LAVGC has formed this group to further observe plants that do well here. We will visit successful Mediterranean/native gardens and nurseries, and may study individual plant groups.

If you are interested in learning more about plants that work in our Mediterranean climate below is the schedule for the Alameda County Master Gardeners' Earth Friendly Demonstration Garden. It is located at 3575 Greenville Road, Livermore. Tours run from 10-11 every second Saturday of the month but there are master gardeners there from 9:30-11:30 to answer questions about the plants.

Bring Back the Natives!

Many of our members belong to this organization and you may also be interested. The National Garden Club, our parent club, has an article "Going Native in Your Garden: Digging into the Magic and Myths" in the Summer 2011 edition of The National Gardener.

Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour shows gardens containing 60% or more natives. There are virtual and in person tours. Resources include designers, nurseries and gardens. You may volunteer to show your own native garden.
