The Penny Pines program is a joint partnership of the National Garden Club (NGC) and the USDA Forest Service.
This program sustains our national and urban forests through a reforestation/forest education program.
The Penny Pines program provides a way of honoring individuals by donating money in their name for re-planting trees in our forests.
Common reasons for Penny Pines nominations are to honor someone who has passed or to acknowledge someone's contributions.
Family members receive a certificate that provides the location of the land planted in honor of the nominated person.
Since 1999, our club has donated money to help plant over 234 acres of trees for a total donation of over $15,572.
Each $68 that we collect is used to plant an acre of burned-out national forest land.
How it works
Penny Pines certificates are funded in the following ways:
- The Club purchases certificates from the "spare change" donated by our members.
At each Club meeting, a green Penny Pines box is sent around for members to donate money.
These funds are held until the Board receives a nomination for someone to be honored.
A Board member or any other member can submit a nomination for a Penny Pines donation.
- A member purchases a certificate. Any member can purchase a Penny Pines certificate in honor of someone they know.
Nominations are reviewed by the Board for approval within 60 days of submittal.
Recipients of Plantations receive a Penny Pines certificate identifying the location of the plantation.
To honor or nominate someone
To nominate someone for the Club to honor or to purchase a Penny Pines certificate yourself,
fill out the Penny Pines form and submit it to the Penny Pines chairperson.
If you are purchasing the certificate, include a check for $68, payable to LAVGC, with the form. >
