President's Letter

APRIL, 2021
Greetings LAVGC Members
I invite you to read this newsletter carefully as we have a lot going on in the next couple of months.

By the time you read this we hope to have planted the new roses at Hansen Park Rose Garden provided by our grant from Plant America.  Look for an article in the Independent on the process and the work done by projects leaders Dana Boyd, Gayle Pawloski, and Lois Barber along with publicity by Dolores Bengtson.  They have done a terrific job along with all those who stepped up to help with the plantings.

I am also pleased to announce that two of the children that entered the Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster contest are winners.  Zainab Firdaus, a fourth grader, won 1st place in her grade in California and will advance to National.  Her sister, a second grader, won 2nd place in her grade for California.  Good job girls.  This is a good reminder that State and National have a great number of contests for young and old and some wonderful scholarships, as well.  Check out the opportunities on their web sites.

I hope you were able to join us at our meeting on March 11.  Colston Burrell, our speaker last month, shared some lovely gardens from around the world and sure made me hope that things will soon open up and we are able to travel to some of the lovely sites he shared.
Happy gardening,  Jeri.
