Co-President’s Letter

Dear Fellow Garden Club members,

It’s hard to believe another Garden Club Year is drawing to a close – where does the time go? Hopefully the weather will be settling into its normal summer pattern and we’ll all be able to get out into our gardens and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

As I retreat to the shrubbery, I’d like to thank you all for your support and friendship over the past 2 years Special thanks must go to my long-suffering Co-President, Sondra Bierre, who , I’m afraid, was thrown into the fray even more times than I anticipated by my frequent absences. Sondra is being joined by Tina Higashi in the Co-President role for the coming year and I know the Club will continue to grow and flourish under their leadership.

Sondra and I would like to extend sincere thanks to all the Officers and Board members for their hard work throughout the year – it is a commitment but it is very fulfilling and you get to know some very wonderful people – gardeners are a great bunch! There’s an enthusiastic slate of committee chairs already for next year but I know there are some vacancies. Please consider sparing some of your time for the Club - we need you all to participate to keep all our programs fresh and new.

I look forward to seeing you at our June meeting where we will be welcoming our new Executive Board for 2011/12, honoring some special members, and enjoying a pot luck, and social time with fellow members.

Happy Gardening!

Lydia Roberts, Co-President

Misc. Items of Interest

...The Goosmans have just trimmed part of their prickly pear off to make room for another peach tree and have lots of "pads" to give away if anyone is interested. The plant is rather special because Bettie brought it from South Africa with her import permit about 30 years ago. It is very nice and has fewer thorns than most. It came from Bettie’s aunt in Pretoria and she always commented on the few spines. If interested, please contact Bettie.

...Found eyeglasses they wereleft at the food booth at the Plant Sale. Please call Sondra Bierre – 485-9513 to claim, if not claimed, they will be donated to the Lion's Club.

...Erma McCue will Chair the Garden Angels for 2011-12. If someone is in need of the Garden Angels this summer, please contact Erma at 443-1512 or ermamccue@comcast.net.

...There is a new interest group proposed for next year for the club which would focus on growing vegetables and edibles in our area. Jim O’Laughlin and Barbara Stott are coordinating its formation. If you are interested in being part of this group, please contact Barbara.
